There are times when you just have to admit that a project is taking much longer than you originally anticipated. As a DIYer, living in the house as we remodel ... need I say more? We're getting closer to being mostly done, but we probably still have another year to go.
Life imitating art: Obviously hiring out the work we want to be done on the house would be easier, and quicker, but for us, financially speaking, it just fits our budget better to do the things ourselves. And I'm willing to bet there are a lot of folks out there like us who are doing their remodel on their own. The University of YouTube is great for this. And it doesn't hurt that Mr. L is a jack of all trades. If it takes us, or you, a little—or a lot—longer than the average remodeler, that's okay.
I can't remember the first time I watched Under The Tuscan Sun (and yes, I've watched it many times since). It's a great film if you haven't seen it, but there's one line that has always stuck in my mind.
“The trick to overcoming buyer's remorse is to have a plan. Pick one room and make it yours. Go slowly through the house. Be polite. Introduce yourself, so it can introduce itself to you.” ~ Frances
Brrr ... it's cold outside. Winter is here! (I just went outside to take pictures). Obviously, I love this movie and what this particular snippet means to my inner DIYer. But it reaches deeper than that. Remodeling our house is a metaphor for our lives or mine at least. As you can see in the pictures, the kitchen is done, and inside and out, there's still more to do.
Every dream needs a plan, whether it's doing a special DIY project, giving your house a new look, making a quiet sanctuary real, repairing the garden, or starting a blog. So here's our plan: “Pick one room and make it yours. Go slowly through the house (your project, garden, or blog). Be polite. Introduce yourself, so it can introduce itself to you.”

Until then, as always, happy reading—
We are building something together. Let's get to it.
